Gracefully Haunted
03:28
|
|||
She walked into the room so nonchalantly
Was hard for me to see anything else
Her face reflected in the glass of wine that she poured me
She drowned me with her eyes then drank to my health
It took her no time to lay me to ruin
If I could make her mine would she just let me go?
Freezing time
Watching her float across a room
Don't ask me why
Sometimes I feel like she's the moon
She walked out of my life so nonchalantly
It was hard for me to feel anything else
No trace of her face left in my memory
Just a candle burning on my shelf
She took her time then left in a hurry
Did she take what's mine or did she leave something else?
Counting time
Watching her move up the coast
Don't ask me why
Sometimes I feel like she's a ghost
I'm gracefully haunted
Gracefully haunted
I’m gratefully haunted

Balloon
04:22
|
|||
Thought we were flying like a hot air balloon
But we’re just dying in our living room
Don’t bury me yet, carry me on a little longer now
At the risk of repeating myself, I’ll think about you again
And how we’re gonna end
It’s like we’re lying awake outside of a dream
Where we’re halfway between a smile and a scream
If we could talk past the words that we don’t believe
Maybe we’d walk past the path that won’t set us free
Don’t bury me yet, carry me on a little longer now
At the risk of repeating myself, I’ll think about you again
And how it’s gonna end
Thought we’d be dying a slow death at our own hands
But now we’re learning to spread our own wings again
So don’t bury me yet, don’t carry me on and don’t you ever regret
At the risk of revealing myself, I’ll think about us again
And how it’ll never end

Dog Day Afternoon
03:38
|
|||
My toes are tapping
Your lips are flapping
While the ice is melting in your drink
The way you're talking’s kinda got me walking 'cause it's almost forcing me to think
The bees are buzzing
I think I count a dozen and they're bringing out the honey in me
I'm not bluffing it might add up to nothing but it's easier than 1,2,3
My eyes are glazing over and the sun’s in a hazy mood
Nobody told her, now she went and got herself unglued
On this dog day afternoon
My ears are ringing
Someone must be singing a song about you and me
I’ve been thinking what’s the point of sinking
When the clouds are giving rides for free
My eyes are glazing over and the sun’s in a hazy mood
Nobody told her, now she went and got herself unglued
On this dog day afternoon

She Was
03:46
|
|||
She was
She now is
She wants
She now gets
Anything she wants
Comes to her
Anything she needs
Comes from me
Without a reason or a rhyme
I find I’ve become a useless casualty
She was
She now is
She wants
She now gets
She aims to please
She’s got her sights on me
And tries to pretend with no coincidence at all
I stand here helpless while
She dances with angels
Far above the passing gates of time
She was
She now is
She wants
She now gets
If I choose to ignore
What for
It just seems pointless
She was
She now is
She wants
She now gets

Here Lies a Friend
04:24
|
|||
Sunrise
You’re superstitious
Colored fields
Washed with stain
Sunset
She’s delicious
Curl of smoke
Floats through the rain
If those eyes end where these skies begin
Hold tight, no surprise that here lies a friend
Far out
In the distance
Taste of summer
Waits in vain
So close
No resistance
You and I
Are one again
If those eyes end where these skies begin
Hold tight, no surprise that here lies a friend
If these eyes end where those skies begin
Low tide, no surprise that here lies a friend

Hiding Alone
03:38
|
|||
She’s got the eyes of a child
With a window to your soul
And if you don’t mind me trying
To convince her to head home
Caught a glimpse down the street
See the others they were laughing
While the circus is in town
And all your toys are broken
So listen to the sirens
As she climbs the rotted barn fence
Out in the cold
She’s hiding alone
Spared from the abuse
Detached from the excitement
Tortured by someone’s ghost
One more day in silence
Don’t listen to those voices
‘Cause they’re not making no sense
When you’re hiding alone
She’s hiding alone
I know you’re hiding alone
So listen for the sirens
As she climbs the rotting barn fence
Out in the cold
She’s hiding alone
I know you’re hiding alone

The Seasons
03:50
|
|||
Stubborn summer
But autumn’s coming
Winter shakes his head because she’s gonna be late
She’s gonna be late
For the new year
For the good cheer
And all our expectations that we celebrate
How we celebrate
Spring is calling
The Old Man’s stalling
Will we get the cold darkness off of our minds?
Get it off our minds
Until the sun comes
Hold me in your arms
And we’ll dance through the seasons all over again
And over again

Landlord
03:16
|
|||
Woke up this morning to a poorly written warning from the landlord who was storming the castle that I crashed the night before
The words they spoke to me in a language I could not believe and the feeling it provoked, you see, not unlike a person scorned
And even though I felt evicted and rejected, a sensation unexpected hit me from that piece of paper on the floor
I got a sense that there was something more
To the note that was slipped under the door
Found some coffee and I shook the shivers off me, closed the open window I must’ve climbed in
Got my bearings, found the same old wear and tearings that had battered me and tattered me and scattered all of my belongings
Realized I must be home, what a surprise, not quite relief I’m blurry-eyed but it’s crystal clear what happened again
I got the sense that there was something more
To the note that was slipped under the door
Yeah it’s true I disappear sometimes
But at least the rent’s always on time

My Remaining Years
04:38
|
|||
Let's run until we learn to fly
And drink until our cup runs dry
Then fall from a velvet sky
To drown in your lonely eyes
And I'll wait right here
My remaining years
We'll sing our songs up at the sky
And dance around the fire light
And stay up until the light
Then dream it all will be alright
And we'll be right here
Our remaining years
Let's run until we learn to fly
And drink until our cup runs dry
Then fall from a velvet sky
To drown in your lonely eyes
And I'll be right here
My remaining years

Lollipop
04:53
|
|||
Once upon a time we had a happy home then we had to pack
Once upon a time I lost a pretty girl but I don't want her back
I want a lollipop
Once I walked a crooked path to beat the math
Took my turns too wide
Ended up beside myself and settled in for a smoother ride
You're so sweet
When I'm at your feet
Once a day we try to rise and try to shine
Then we fall right back
Once a year remind ourselves
The numbers climb to keep us right on track
Once a life we live and once a life we die, if we're lucky at that
Once in a while we tell ourselves to never stop until we reach the top
I want a lollipop
You're so sweet
When I'm at your feet
I want a lollipop

Up Down Out
04:18
|
|||
Wake up
Pay up
Stand up
Man up
Leave me be
I'm sound asleep
For now
Wait up
Hold up
Slow down
I'm worn out
Ease your ache
I'm wide awake
For now

Yellow Dog South Brunswick Township, New Jersey
Yellow Dog is trapped inside the radio of a broken down car being pushed uphill in the rain. Sometimes, the top of a hill is reached and the car gathers sufficient speed going down the other side for us to pop the clutch, attempt a jump start, and generate just enough juice to briefly power the radio. These are the rare moments that make us forget we are pushing a goddamn car around in the rain. ... more
